An open house was held on May 12, 2022 at Eagle Island to review the proposed dogs-on-leash policy for park. The move responds to a dramatic increase in the number of dogs — and dog-related incidents — occurring in the park. Click here for details or to comment.


For many years, dogs have been allowed off leash in most places within the park but a dramatic increase in the number of canine visitors and dog-related incidents – some leading to violence and police involvement – has forced the change.

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation wants interested members of the public to have the opportunity to hear the reasons for the shift and to have a chance to comment.
An open house was held at the Harrier Picnic Shelter near the park Visitor Center on May 12, 2022. Parks staff received a lot of feedback at an open house on May 12, 2022 and continue to assess input while the comment periods remains open through May 26th.
