PARK UPDATE:

Spring 2024 Update:

Camping season is upon us! Hawley’s Landing Campground will be the first to open on April 4th for same day walk-ins only. Spots will be reservable starting May 3rd.

Open House: An open house regarding the new marina is scheduled for Monday April 29, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The open house will be at the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation North Region Office in the Roosevelt Room, located at 2885 Kathleen Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815.

We also have a much-anticipated announcement: We have drinkable water! After our main water line being replaced last year, we were recently able to put a chlorination system in. We have purged and tested the line several times and the Department of Environmental Quality has given us the thumbs up to remove the Boil Water Advisory. Our water is clean and ready to drink.

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation will make significant and overdue changes to the marina services offered at Heyburn State Park. While still in the planning stages, the project involves new marinas at Chatcolet and Rocky Point.

The full extent and timing of the project will depend on available funding. Work is expected to begin in fall 2024 at the earliest.

Changes are being made to . . .

  • Increase the number of slips and satisfy the growing demand for marina services.
  • Address aging structures, sedimentation, noxious weeds and shoreline loss.
  • Enhance the shoreline to improve public access.
  • Create a new, sustainable business model that supports operations, maintenance, and an improved user experience.

Impacts

The marina upgrade will require the removal of existing boat garages and cabin lease docks. The changes will better satisfy legal requirements that Heyburn be managed as a public park.

The Idaho Department of Lands has announced a process for potentially getting a permit to move or sell a boat garage.
