Main Entrance to Eagle Island State Park to Close Monday, January 8, 2024; Visitors Can Access Park Off Linder Road/Hatchery Road

Thursday January 4, 2024

Eagle Island State Park — A surge in heavy equipment traffic and other construction needs will close the main entrance to the park off State Highway 44/State Street starting Monday morning, temporarily routing visitors to the park’s old entrance off Hatchery Road, which connects to Linder Road.

The detour, occurring primarily for safety, is expected to last until February 24th, although that target could change based on construction requirements. Originally, the closure was to occur on January 29th and run through March 25th, a longer period. Several hundred loads of material will be removed through the Highway 44 entrance during the public closures.

A new, 50-space RV campground is under construction and will include water and electrical service, as well as a new sanitary sewer connection for the park, and a new main water supply. The project has long been part of the Eagle Island Master Plan and includes the digging of a new pond as well as other upgrades. The $13 million project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

A second closure of the park’s main entrance is expected in late September and anticipated to run through October.
