Proposed Changes to State, Federal Grant Programs and to Land and Water Conservation Fund

Update: The Idaho Park and Recreation Board acted on the package of proposed rule changes at the August 18, 2021 meeting.

Background: The Idaho Park and Recreation Board will hold a public hearing on August 11, 2021 at 10 a.m., Mountain Standard Time/9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, to consider input about proposed rule changes to the administration of state and federal grant funds and the administration of the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The proposals would make changes to programs that disperse between $10 to $12 million a year to improve recreational opportunities across Idaho. Grant-funded projects create and maintain trails for hikers, cyclists and motorized riders, and improve campgrounds, boating facilities, and parks (local and state), among other lasting improvements.

The grant funding comes from gasoline taxes, registration fees, specialty license plates and various federal funding sources.
