PARK HOURS & NOTICES:
The Spring Shores Marina store will be closed Aug 31st -September 3rd, reopen September 4-7, close for the season on September 8th.
Last week for fuel dock is projected for August 24-27th, depending on fuel and water levels- which ever runs out first.

Lucky Peak State Park is the perfect place for swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating or biking. Sandy Point and Discovery Park are a 10-minute drive from downtown Boise or a 30-minute bike ride on the scenic Boise River Greenbelt. Springs Shores Marina a 40-minute drive. Ride your bike to the park and enjoy a cool dip at the Sandy Point beach. Bring your family and your dog to Discovery Park for a picnic, or bring your water toys to Spring Shores, which offers boat ramps, ample parking, a full-service marina, and a convenience store.
Three distinct day use units make up Lucky Peak State Park. Discovery is a popular roadside park that is a great place to host a company party or family reunion. Sandy Point, at the base of the Lucky Peak Dam, is popular for its beach and clear, cool water. Spring Shores offers lakeside access for water enthusiasts by providing two boat ramps, parking, a marina, and a convenience store.

Pets are allowed year-round at Spring Shores and Discovery Units. No pets at Sandy Point between May 1 – October 1.

Lucky Peak is a reservoir, which means the water level varies. You may want to check boat ramp access before bringing your boat to the park. Learn more tips.
- Pets are prohibited at Sandy Point May 1 – October 1.
- Pets are allowed on leash unless in a designated off leash area at Spring Shores Marina & Discovery year-round, and at Sandy Point October 1 – May 1.
- No hardshell watercraft in the swimming area at Sandy Point (we recommend Discovery Park for this type of watercraft), Inflatable watercraft only.
- No glass bottles at Sandy Point.
- No tree-hanging hammocks or slacklines at any of the Lucky Peak State Park Units.
- Fishing is prohibited at Sandy Point. Fishing is also prohibited within the buoy boundary of the marina boat slips at Spring Shores.
- Our entrance kiosk at Discovery unit is cash only. If the entrance kiosks at Sandy Point & Spring Shores Marina do not have staff present, they are also cash only.
- Trailer and oversized parking is not available at Discovery. Sandy Point & Spring Shores offer trailer & oversized parking options.
Sandy Point
If you like fun in the sun, the beach at Sandy Point is the
place for you and your family. Enjoy a dip in the cool water after a scenic bike ride on the Boise River Greenbelt! This 34-acre site at the base of Lucky Peak Dam features a large sandy swimming area complete with water toys and two beach volleyball courts. Sandy Point offers lots of cool grass and
shady trees.
- Disc golf (Seasonally: Oct 1 – May 1)
- Experience Idaho Loaner Backpack Program – Check one out at the park office.
- Go on a “Space Walk” with self-guided tour brochure, located along bike path.
- Test your tracking skills with “Scout’s Footprint Friends” and animal track self-guided activity. Pick up a guide near the rental building.
- Visit the Welcome Center & Junior Ranger Booth. Free activities for Junior Rangers, supplies and park souvenirs available for purchase on weekends during the summer.
- Cool off by renting a paddleboard or treating yourself to a shaved ice or island soda. Paddleboard Idaho, located within Sandy Point offers these during the summer season, call to make rental reservations (208) 297-3884
Discovery
Just 8 miles outside of the city escape the hustle and bustle with a picnic, and relax among the magnificent trees and the rocky canyons.
- This section of the Boise River is an excellent flat water area often visited by canoeists, paddleboarders, and kayakers.
- Bring your binoculars or check out a loaner pair at the Sandy Point office. You will usually see waterfowl, song birds, owls during the summer while bald eagles are common in the winter.
- Start or end your Boise Greenbelt ride here , bike racks and a tool stations are available.
- Play a game using our horseshoe pits or sand volleyball court.
- On select nights throughout the summer, attend a “Bat Night”. Listen to a ranger talk about our resident bats and take out acoustic detectors to hear their echolocation calls. Check out our event calendar for dates.

Spring Shores Marina
Spend a day on the water! This facility includes a full-service marina, which provides long-term moorage, fuel, and pump out station. The large parking lots provide access to two boat ramps with parking for trailers. Lucky Peak Lake is a reservoir, which means the water level varies. You may want to check boat ramp access before bringing your boat to the park. Learn more tips.
- Visit the marina general store for supplies and park souvenirs. Open seasonally Memorial Day – Labor Day.
- With access to shoreline, bring your fishing poles. Need bait? When open, the marina store has got you covered!
- Want to picnic with a view? Several picnic tables and charcoal grills are available to use year-round.

Spring Shores Marina Expansion Planning Study
The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) initiated a feasibility study for the improvement and potential expansion of the marina facilities at Lucky Peak State Park. The study team held multiple public meetings to share information and gather input.
