Winchester Lake State Park
PARK UPDATE
10/07/2026 Health Advisory at Winchester Lake:
Recent samples taken by Nez Perce Tribe Water Resources Division in Winchester Lake show elevated levels of toxins produced by cyanobacteria which can be harmful to people, pets, and livestock. Visitors are urged to use caution when recreating near the water.
- Humans, pets, and livestock should not drink affected lake water.
- Humans and animals should stay out of affected water
- Fish should be cleaned and rinsed with clean water. Only the fillet portion should be consumed.

2026/2027 Winter Season Update:
- Bitterroot & Camas Loops, the shower house, and fish cleaning station are closed October 1st for the season.
- Our basic sites in Appaloosa Loop and Yurts are open year-round.
- Potable water is still accessible at frost free spigots in our basic campsite and yurt loops.
- The RV dump station is still open; Water is turned off.
- Firewood is available for purchase of $7.00 per bundle.

About the Park
Winchester Lake State Park is a small, forested oasis in the heart of the Camas Prairie. Located 38 miles south of Lewiston, there is something for everyone to enjoy in every season. In the warmer months, many people will fish, camp, mountain bike and canoe.
When the weather turns cold it’s not uncommon to see groups of anglers on the lake, hoping to land some epic bass or maybe even the elusive Tiger Muskie. The yurts are available all year and provide a cozy retreat when coming in from a day of fishing or exploring the trails. Winchester is the perfect spot to relax, restore and reconnect, both with nature and with family and friends.

General Information
All sites are pet-friendly with the exception of the Lodgepole Yurt.
There are four yurts at the park open year-round:
Lodgepole — Snowberry — Ponderosa — Tamarack
*Please note that Lodgepole is not pet-friendly
Only one vehicle may be parked at the yurts. The primary vehicle is covered by the camping reservation. All other vehicles must park in the overflow parking area and may be subject to the Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee plus an overnight fee as well.
Know Before You Go:
- All the yurts come with a bunkbed (twin on top & full on the bottom), mattress & plastic cover for easy cleaning & sanitation, a futon that folds out to a full, microwave, a picnic table both inside & outside, a fire ring outside, a gas propane BBQ on the deck (propane is provided) and a single canoe that is assigned t
o the specific yurt(life jackets & paddles are provided) - They all sleep the base occupancy of 5, but will hold up to 8 people($12.00 per person over the base)
- Dogs are welcome in all the yurts except for Lodgepole. That is kept as pet-dander-free as possible for those with allergies.
- All the yurts come with electric wall heat, lights & electricity.
- No smoking or open flame cooking in the yurts
- No tents, campers, or RVs are allowed at the yurts
- Pets must be on leashes at all times & cannot be left alone in the yurts or on the decks
- Check in time is 3 p.m. & check out time is 11 a.m
