July 17, 2024:
The nearby Texas Ridge Fire has put the park at a Level 1 Green Preparedness rating, meaning no action is currently needed but to be ready and prepared for a possible evacuation. For more information and for the latest updates, visit the Latah County Sheriff’s page.
Summer 2024 Update:
Due to waterline upgrades and repairs, the park will experience campground closures starting in September 2024. Kokanee and Trout loops will be closed for the season starting September 7th – with tentative opening May of 2025. Other areas such as Camas and Osprey loops, as well as the cabins, may be affected periodically throughout the process. More information to come!
July 26, 2024: Due to unhealthy air quality and per order of the Department of Environmental Quality, we will be implementing an open burn ban at Dworshak, Winchester, McCroskey, and Hells Gate State Parks. This means no campfires, charcoal, or gas fire rings. You can still use gas cookstoves.
