The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a federal program established to conserve natural areas, protect water resources, and provide public recreation opportunities, funded primarily through offshore oil and gas royalties.

State and local assistance programs provide matching grants to local governmental agencies for outdoor recreation projects, including park development, renovation, acquisition, and enhancements. This program strengthens communities and protects public lands for future generations.
