Trim the Trees with Lucky Peak State Park!
Drop in for FREE winter fun at the Sandy Point of Lucky Peak State Park. Help us make pinecone bird feeder garland to hang around the trees and decorate your own special wooden “tree cookie” ornament to take home. The event will be held inside the shop at the Sandy Point office building. This building is directly under the letter “n” in the phrase “Keep Your Forests Green” written on the Lucky Peak Dam. Bring the whole family and your reusable mug or thermos. Hot cocoa, cider, popcorn, and craft supplies will be provided.
There will also be a $10 wreath workshop that will be held on the same day! Make a fresh greenery wreath with us during a guided workshop with provided materials and decorations; we also welcome you to bring your own decorations and ribbon for ultimate personalization! Send us an email at san@idpr.idaho.gov or call our office (208) 334-2432 to claim your spot for the workshop. We will also provide gloves for handling the needles, however you are free to bring your own. This is a limited class so reach out as soon as possible if you are interested!
Park Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee is $7.00 per vehicle, this fee is waived if you have a valid Idaho State Parks Passport properly displayed on your windshield.

Drop in for some winter fun at Discovery Unit of Lucky Peak State Park. Help us make pinecone bird feeder garland to hang around the trees and decorate your own special wooden “tree cookie” to take home. Event will be held outside under our middle picnic pavilion, please dress for winter conditions. Bring the whole family and your own mug or thermos. Hot cocoa, apple cider, and craft supplies will be provided.
Park Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee is $7.00 per vehicle, this fee is waived if you have a valid Idaho State Parks Passport properly displayed on your windshield. Discovery Park is exact CASH or CHECK only.
Sandy Point Disc Golf Course Opens
Lucky Peak State Park’s Sandy Point Unit opens its 18-hole Disc Golf Course for the 2023-2024 season! This course is open each year seasonally, generally October 1st-May 1st. The Sandy Point entrance gate closes each day, typically at 4pm, to vehicles during this season. Make sure all vehicles are outside the gate by the posted closing time. However, the course is available to play by walk in until sunset.
Free Ski Day @ Ponderosa State Park
Entrance is free to the public and winter access fees are waived on Free Ski Day- January 7, 2023. Pre-registration is required to participate in the free lesson and rental package portion of the event. Lessons and rental packages are offered in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the following times. Rentals are returned at the end of the lesson. *Skiers may choose a lesson in classic cross-country skiing or skate style of cross-country skiing. If you have never cross-country skiied before, it is recommended to start with classic.

Avy Savvy Night – Idaho Falls
Join us on January 5 from 7 – 10 PM for an evening of Avalanche Awareness, Safety, and Education!
There will be presentations from the Sawtooth Avalanche Center, a Premier Viewing of the “To The Hills and Back” feature film from the Utah Avalanche Center, and the Lesley Martin story.
PLUS we will be auctioning off a Rob Kincaid Snowmobile!
Location: The Colonial Theater in Idaho Falls. 450 A Street.

First Day Winter Trek – Harriman State Park
Join a ranger for a 2 mile snowshoe hike in beautiful Harriman State Park of Idaho. Celebrate the New Year and enjoy hot cocoa and cider at the Ranchview Shelter. Bring snowshoes, binoculars, water, and warm layers. Loaner snowshoes available. To sign out snowshoes, please arrive at Ranchview Shelter no later than 12:30 pm.
This is a free event. Winter access and motor vehicle entrance fees still apply.
