From the CEO of the Eastern Washington Northern Idaho Council:
As we approach our Founder Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday on October 31st, we wanted to alert you to a historic celebration that will occur at Farragut State Park just east of Athol, Idaho at 1 pm, October 31st. Current members of our Council and members of Roundup ’65 will unveil a granite rock monument to commemorate Roundup ’65 historic Girl Scout legacy. Our Council was host to over 12,000 Girl Scout in July of 1965 for the final Roundup that would become the biggest gathering ever of Girl Scouts! And it happened in our Council! More importantly, this epic event was a trailblazing event that opened the doors to decades of youth events in the state of Idaho. Our Girl Scouts were the first and we want to forever commemorate the trailblazing our Council did many years ago and visionary women who still visit the historic site for reunions. For those interested in coming, make entrance to the park and then make the first left on North Road (after the visitor center) and then take a right on Monaghan driving till you see a field and large wooden friendship poles on the right. Our Council thanks Roundup veteran Dianne Macduff and the Friends of Roundup ’65 for making this important celebration possible. All in our Council are invited to come but for those not able to make it, please take a moment on Halloween to be very proud of the courageous history of your Council that hosted the biggest Girl Scout event ever—we continue to trail blaze decades later to a better tomorrow!
