Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. How is IDPR’s registration process changed?
A. The department modernized its approach to recreational vehicle registrations through a web-based program. The conversion ended the reliance on antiquated, hand-written triplicate forms in favor of an online/digital platform.

Q. Who will these changes affect?
A. All ATV, OHV, motorbike, boat, and snowmobile users in Idaho.

Q. Where will I be able to buy my registration?
A. Online, initially, at retail vendors across the state and soon at your local Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices. You can conveniently renew registrations for snowmobiles, boats, ATVs, and motorbikes online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also purchase annual Idaho State Park motor vehicle entry fee (MVEF) stickers, Park N’ Ski permits, and Invasive Species Permits online.

Q. Will I receive my sticker right away or will it be sent in the mail?
A. You will receive an email right away that will serve as your temporary sticker. The permanent sticker should come in the mail within two weeks, although we are experiencing a backlog due to a large number of people renewing their registrations -- some for the first time in years.

Q. How long will it take stickers to arrive by mail?
A. IDPR anticipates being able to mail stickers the same week as sticker purchase -- once the current glut eases in coming weeks.

Q. Will I be able to renew more than one vehicle or vessel at a time?
A. Absolutely. The system has an easy-to-use shopping cart feature that allows you to add renewals for multiple vehicles and/or vessels at the same time. You can also add stickers, passes and permits to your cart during the same, single transaction.

Q. Where does the money go?
A. Through the registration designation process, your registration dollars are put to work for you in the area that you designate. That means that if you snowmobile in Fremont County, you can designate that your registration dollars be sent to Fremont County to ensure the trails and trail heads in that county are groomed and accessible for your use.
