ALMO (August 19, 2019) – City of Rocks National Reserve announces the autumn photo workshop and safari to be held beginning 1 p.m. on Friday, September 27, and concluding at noon on Sunday, September 29. This annual event typically coincides with peak colors at the reserve.

The weekend kicks off with a digital photography workshop for beginners (those wanting to learn how to use their camera's manual features and basic composition). The safari sets out on Friday at 5:30 p.m. to capture the seasonal colors illuminated by the setting sun, and then resumes early morning on Saturday to photograph the sunrise. New locations will be featured throughout the three-day event. Photo-shoots are followed by indoor editing sessions.

The Safari is open to all skill levels, but preregistration is required and group size is limited. Registration opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, and it is expected to go quickly. Registrations will be taken only by phone (208) 824-5911, by email: Wallace_Keck@partner.nps.gov, or in person at the visitor center in Almo.

There is no fee, and participants arrange their own lodging/camping and meals. The safari is semi-strenuous, and weather can be unpredictable, so registrants should be ready to commit to the adventure.

For more information, call the Reserve at 208-824-5901 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. any day of the week. City of Rocks National Reserve is located 50 miles south of Burley in Cassia County, and features historic trails, geologic wonders, abundant recreational opportunities and grand scenery.
