Castle Rocks State Park Public Archaeology Workshop

Friday, June 21, 2019 - 4:30pm to Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 4:00pm

Join archaeologists for the second annual public archaeology workshop at Castle Rocks State Park. This will be the final season of excavations at the Jensen Homestead, where John P. Jensen and his family lived for 18 years in the 1880s to 1890s.

This public workshop will take place on Friday, June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd, 2019, under the direction of the Park Archaeologist. Adults and teens (13+) who want to learn about archaeological principles and methods, as well as Idaho settler history, are welcome to participate. No previous archaeology experience is required. Participants will take part in all aspects of the excavation, including digging, measuring, screening, completing excavation records, and identifying artifacts.

The workshop is limited to 16 participants and the registration fee is $15 per person. Teens under 18 must participate with a parent or guardian. Register by calling Tara at 208-824-5912 or by emailing tara_mcclure-cannon@partner.nps.gov. Registration deadline is May 18th and the non-refundable registration fee is due when you register.

Participants are responsible for their own accommodations and meals, except for lunch on Sunday, when there will be a Dutch oven lunch prepared by the park. Fieldwork supplies, including gloves, are provided. Campsites can be reserved for Castle Rocks and City of Rocks through ReserveAmerica.com. Other accommodations are also available in the Almo, Idaho area.
