Nordic and Snowshoe Opportunities within Idaho's State Parks
Idaho's State Parks are great places to experience unique winter adventures. Exploring the parks by ski or snowshoe is one of the best ways to enjoy the peaceful scenery and fresh clean air in the winter. Idaho has two world class Nordic trail systems, refered to as Premium Nordic opportunities and many additional Nordic and Snowshoe opportunities within other parks statewide.
Premium Nordic Opportunities
Ponderosa State Park and Harriman State Park
The first premium nordic opportunity found in the Idaho State Park system is Ponderosa State Park located on Payette Lake near McCall and annually host at least one world Nordic championship. It has good snow, forests of Ponderosa Pines, meadows and overlooks that attract outdoor enthusiast from all over the world. The second is Harriman State Park, located just outside Yellowstone National Park in the Island Park area. The extensive trail system is noted for its quality grooming. Viewing the variety of wildlife including moose and rare trumpeter swans adds significantly to the thrill of winter in this park. You'll discover something new each time you visit! The park offers a glimpse back in time at the Harriman Family Historic Railroad Ranch. Both Ponderosa and Harriman State Park offer numerous lodging options ranging from yurt/cabins to historic ranch houses to dormitories.

Additional Nordic and Snowshoe Opportuntiies within Idaho's State Parks
Five other Idaho State Parks are located in the snowbelt and offer amazing scenery and variety. Farragut, Winchester, Lake Cascade, Round Lake and City of Rocks and Castle Rocks State Parks offer skiing and snowshoeing when snow conditions permit .
