Ridgeview is opening July 2nd, 2009. You can start making reservations for Ridgeview on Tuesday, June 30th at 8am, Mountain Standard Time. Hours of the call center are: 8am-7pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturday through Sunday, 9 am through 5pm, Mountain Standard Time, closed on holidays.
Important Ridgeview Information.
Tent pad space is limited, and all tents must be kept on the defined living pad.
Ridgeview campsite water pressure may exceed 100 psi (pounds per square inch). Plumbing in many RV’s is not designed to operate at pressures above 45 psi.
To prevent possible damage to RV’s campers should use regulators between the hose bib at the site and the RV’s water line, or fill the RV’s water tank and use water from it.
Limited day use parking is available and is confined to the Day Use Area only.

Early summer is here in Long Valley and in the park. This is a great time to camp, fish, or just plain relax at Lake Cascade State Park. Wildlife viewing, and bird watching, are just some of the great things to see in and around the Cascade area. If visiting the park this time of year, visitors are encouraged to prepare for all types of weather conditions, from rainy cool temperatures to summer like days in the mid 80 temperatures.
Lake Cascade is at full pool. Boaters please use caution when boating on Lake Cascade. There may be a possibility of floating debris from spring runoff from local tributaries flowing into Lake Cascade.
It is a great time to take a walk down the Crown Point Railroad Grade Trail. This 2.7 mile trail offers a relaxing, easy hike to observe breath-taking views of the lake and a possible glimpse of local wildlife. Please keep your pets on a leash.
Day Use and Camping Opportunities:
All day use areas and campgrounds are open and water is on. Cabarton and Snowbank Day Use areas have pack it in pack it out garbage service.
Blue Heron, Van Wyck, Crown Point and Poison Creek Campgrounds are first come first serve campgrounds. Camping fees range from $9.54 to $12.72 per night (6% Idaho Sales Tax included), check information bulletin boards, camp host, or park ranger for proper fees. Extra vehicles (not in tow) are $5.30 per night (6% Idaho Sales tax included).
Sugarloaf, Huckleberry, Buttercup, West Mountain, and Ridgeview are available for reservations. You can make reservation 9 months in advance or 48 hours prior to your arrival date. To make reservations online through the website or call the call center at 1-888-922-6743. Reservations are available from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. There is a $10.60 (6% Idaho sales tax included) reservation fee that is nonrefundable and does not apply to the camp fees. Camping fees are $12.72/ $23.32 per night. Extra vehicles (not in tow) are $5.30 per night.
Snowbank Group Use Area is available for reservation by call center only. Toll free number is 1-888-922-6743. Reservations for this area can be made 9 months in advance or 48 hours prior to your arrival date. Reservations are available from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. This area will accommodate up to 75 people and parking for 25 vehicles. This area is great for large family gatherings. RV’s are welcome to park in the parking lot. Central Water, vault toilets, and large fire ring are available.
The group use yurts at Osprey Point are open year around for group use. The yurts are offer breath taking views of the surrounding valley. This is great time to spend a weekend or weekday at the yurts. Water and vault toilets are available. The yurts can accommodate 30 people. A large fire ring is available for campfires and is great for roasting marshmallows, gazing up at the nighttime sky and sharing camp stories. If you want to go swimming or try your luck at fishing, from Osprey Point travel 2.5 miles north to Poison Creek Unit and spend the day of relaxing fun in the day use area. To make reservations you can call the call center at 1-888-922-6743. Reservations can be made 9 months in advance or 48 hours prior to your arrival date.
The 2009 annual passes are available. You can purchase one for $25.00 or two for $30.00. To purchase passes go to Lake Cascade State Park office or any park office, IDPR Headquarters in Boise, or North, South, and East regions customer service center. Annual pass holders do not have to pay the $4.00 day use fee and can enjoy the day at any Idaho State Park. Please remember the annual pass is not valid for camping or extra vehicle fees.
If you need an invasive species sticker for you boating vessel you can purchase the stickers at Lake Cascade State Park's office. Office hours are from 8:00 am through 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday as staffing permits.
Evening and junior rangers programs have started for the summer. For information about the upcoming programs call the park office at 208-382-6544.
Special Program coming in July. Star Party will be held at Sugarloaf Campground on July 17th and 18th. Boise Astronomical Society will guide through the night sky. Program will start at dusk. For more information call the park office at 208-382-6544.
Dutch oven Cooking Classes and Cook-off!
The U of I Extension Horizons’ Life-style and Education Team has partnered with the Lake Cascade State Park, U of I Extension 4-H, and the Southern Valley County Recreation District to bring the community Dutch oven cooking classes. The classes will begin at 5:30 p.m. and in the following Lake Cascade State Park units: The second and third dates are still available.
July 14th - Main Dishes at Lake Cascade State Park Snowbank unit
July 28th - Desserts at Lake Cascade State Park Cabarton unit
Dutch oven Cook-off will be held on August 6th at 6:00 p.m. at the Valley County Fair. Attendances in the classes are not a requirement to compete in the Cook-off.
Pre-registration is required for each class. Registration closes two days prior to each class. Register at the Lake Cascade State Park Office or the U of I Extension Office, or call Lake Cascade State Park at 382-6544 to register by phone.
Class fees:
$10.00 for each class
$27.00 to register for all three classes
Dutch ovens will be available to purchase at time of registration.
Each class participant will be entered into a drawing that will be announced at the Dutch Oven Cook-Off which will be held on August 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the small arena at the Valley County Fairgrounds. The Cook-Off will be a judged event with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes given in each of the class categories: Hors d’ oeuvres, Main Dish, and Dessert. Everyone is welcome to participate.
Instructional classes and the cook-off at the fair are open to all skill levels and ages. We hope all Dutch oven enthusiasts, beginners to expert, will join us for some summer cooking!

Lake Cascade State Park offers two group camping opportunities including a group camp and the Osprey Point group yurt complex, 175 individual campsites in 6 developed campgrounds, dispersed camping areas with primitive camping, several day use areas, and 6 boat launch ramps. The various campgrounds and facilities of the park are dispersed around the lake’s forty-one square miles of surface water and 86 miles of shoreline. The business office for the park is located in the city of Cascade near the intersection of Dam Road and Lakeshore Drive.
Hiking, bird watching, photography, mountain biking, all types of boating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and just plain relaxing are all available at Lake Cascade State Park. Come and enjoy yourself in this beautiful place, we are "your recreation destination."
