MCPAWS Expands 3rd Annual Skijor Event: Skijor Clinic and Race, Fat Bike Race & Raffle
MCPAWS will host an active and fun-filled day at Ponderosa Park on Saturday, March 9, with all event proceeds benefiting the animals at the shelter. New this year is a Fat Bike Race that will take place following the skijoring race. Community members and visitors are invited to come out and learn, race, watch and cheer. Thanks to Ponderosa Park staff, all ski trails are dog-friendly all-day on Saturday, March 9 to all event participants.
MCPAWS Skijor Clinic costs $5 with registration running from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m., followed immediately by the clinic from 9:00 – 10:00 am. Learn the basics from local skijor enthusiasts. Participants can leave their skijor experience at that, or decide to sign up to race.
MCPAWS Skijor Race registration opens at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 10:30 a.m., when the first race begins. In addition to a beginner course, there is a long course for those who want to kick it up a notch. Included with the $15 race entry fee is a race packet with race number, map, dog bandana and stickers, and treats. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers and best in snow.
Participants must bring their own ski equipment, skijor gear and racing companion. A few loaner sets of skijor harness gear will be available at the event. Vehicle entry to Ponderosa Park is free to race participants and $5 for other visitors that day.
MCPAWS Fat Bike Race registration opens at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. when the first race begins. Bikers will make several laps around a 4 K course, with prizes awarded to the top male & female finishers. Included in your $15 entry fee is a race packet & goodie bag. Bikes must have tires at least 3.5” wide with tire pressure under 10 p.s.i. If you do not have a fat bike, a limited number of bikes will be available from Gravity Sports for no extra charge.
